Supported Media Types

Video, text, audio, image and links can be added to a workspace.

This document describes the media Check supports to be added onto your workspace either manually, using the browser extension or Tiplines.

You can upload the following file types to your Check workspace:

Links

Used to capture social media posts, web articles, images, and videos that are hosted online. As long as the file is public, the social media post and associated media files will be displayed in Check.

Texts

If you are receiving items via a Check tipline, an item will be of the type text only if none of the other supported item types are associated with it.

Some messaging services may limit the number of characters users can send through Tiplines.

Images

The requirements for submitting images are:

  • Max size: 954 MB

  • Supported file type: jpg, jpeg, gif, png.

  • Min dimensions: 1px wide X 1px high.

  • Max dimensions: 10,000px wide X 10,000px high.

From within the fact-check panel, by clicking on the Image actions is possible to download the file, extract transcription and do a reverse image search.

Videos

The requirements for submitting videos are:

  • For Annotation: Max size: 954MB with a progress spinner displayed to observe upload progress.

  • For Tipline: Max size: depends on the platform: WhatsApp - 16MB; Facebook Messenger - 25 MB; Twitter DMs - 15 MB

  • Supported file types: mp4, ogg, ogv, webm, mov, m4v

From within the fact-check panel, by clicking on the Video actions is possible to download the file, reverse image search, change playback speed and extract text from the image through Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Some sources may limit the number of videos that are extracted in a time frame, but the Check item will always be created, regardless of the limitation of the source.

Audios

The requirements for submitting audios are:

  • Max size: 954MB

  • Supported file types: mp3, wav, ogg

From within the fact-check panel, by clicking on the Audio actions is possible to download, change playback speed, and extract transcription.
