We have four different roles in Check, team owner, team editor, journalist and contributor. Different level of access and permissions are granted to each role.

Here are the details about each profile:  

Owner
Is the administrator of the team on Check with all permissions. There could be more than one owner of the team. The first owner is the team creator then he can assign other users the ‘owner’ role. Here’s a list of what team owners can do:

  • Edit team’s data
  • Set team to private
  • Create new projects
  • Edit projects
  • Manage team members
  • Approving or ignoring their requests
  • Editing their roles.
  • Edit any media item
  • Change its status
  • Edit any source
  • Move media items across projects
  • Add annotations to media items
  • Delete any annotations.
  • Add a task to a media item, edit and delete it.
  • Add a task response to a media item and edit it.
  • Assign a task or a media item to specific member of the team.
  • Move source or media item to trash can
  • Delete source or media item forever
  • View trash can of team
  • Empty trash

Editors
This permission is pretty much like team owners, but with a couple of minor differences. They can:

  • Edit team’s data
  • Create new projects
  • Edit projects
  • Manage team members
  • Approving or ignoring their requests
  • Granting users one of these three roles journalist, contributor or editor (but not owner).
  • Edit any media item
  • Change its status
  • Edit any source
  • Move media items across projects
  • Add annotations to media items
  • Delete any annotations with a record in the log
  • Add a task to a media item, edit and delete it.
  • Add a task response to a media item and edit it.
  • Assign a task or a media item to specific member of the team.
  • Move source or media item to trash can
  • View trash can of team

Journalists
This profile cannot edit team’s data, but they can do the following:

  • Create new projects
  • Edit only projects created by them
  • Edit any media item
  • Change its status
  • Edit any source
  • Move media items across projects
  • Add annotations to media items
  • Delete any annotations with a record in the log
  • Add a task response to a media item and edit it.
  • Assign a task or a media item to specific member of the team.
  • Move source or media item to trash can
  • View trash can of team

Contributors
They are the basic users on Check. They are mainly the general public and external participants in your newsroom, and we want them to add whatever evidence they have and will help with the investigation and fact-checking process.

Contributors are able to

  • Create media item, source and annotation
  • edit only sources submitted by them
  • move only media items created by them across projects
  • add annotations to media items
  • delete only annotations submitted by them
  • edit only media items submitted by them
  • Add a task response and edit it
  • Send own media item to trash can

Contributors are not able to:

  • edit team’s data
  • create new projects
  • edit existing projects
  • access team management page
  • change media item’s status
  • Add a task to a media item or delete one
  • Assign a media item or a task to a specific team member
  • Delete a media item forever
